Course Name:
Efficient Deckhand (EDH Merchant)
Course Aim:
The purpose of this course is to improve health and safety onboard ships by providing knowledge to students on how to implement safe working practices on board ships.
Students shall be continuously assessed throughout the course & by means of a short oral examination by a Transport Malta examiner.
Course Structure
This course consists of 40 hours of tuition split over 5 days.
Tuition will be given by means of classroom lectures, practical demonstrations & hands-on learning.
Unit modules will be based on S.L. 234.17 Merchant Shipping (Training and Certification), Third Schedule - Appendix.
Entry Requirements
To be eligible to attend this course, students must fulfil the following requirements:
- Be 17 years or older
- Hold a valid seafarers medical (IMO/ILO)
- Hold an STCW Basic Safety Training Certificate
- Have at least 12 months sea time logged on vessels of 15GT or more.
