                                      Course Name: 

                                      RADAR ARPA Certificate at Operational Level (A-II/1 & B-I/12)

                                      Course Aim:

                                      This course aims to provide students with the knowledge, skills & understanding on the operation of radar and automatic radar plotting aids. (ARPA). Ensuring that they are proficient and meet the required performance standards in accordance with the mandatory minimum requirements specified in Table A-II/1 & B-1/12 of the STCW code.

                                      This course was designed in accordance with IMO Model Course 1.07.

                                      Course Structure

                                      This course consists of 78.3 hours of tuition.

                                      Tuition will be given by means of classroom lectures, practical demonstration & simulator training.

                                      1. Basic theory and operational principles of a marine radar system

                                      2. Radar setting and operation in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions

                                      3. Using radar to ensure safe navigation

                                      4. Manual radar plotting

                                      5. ARPA system or radar target tracking (TT) and AIS reporting functions

                                      6. Operation of ARPA or radar target tracking (TT) and AIS reporting functions

                                      7. Application of COLREGs when using radar

                                      Entry Requirements

                                      To be eligible to attend this course, students must fulfil the following requirements:

                                      • Prior to entering the course, it is recommended the trainees should have completed a minimum period of six months at sea and preferably have gained some experience of watchkeeping, however, this is not a requirement.
                                      • In consideration of radar technology development, it is advised that trainee officers be familiarized with personal computer operations, have the knowledge of planning and conducting a passage and determining position and maintaining a safe navigational watch.
                                      • Trainees should have knowledge of chartwork and IRPCS.
