Ship to Ship Transfer

Description

Ship to Ship Transfer of Petroleum cargoes is a common practise. Experience gained from these regular operations has proven that STS transfers are safe given compliance to the proper procedures, suitable weather and sea conditions.

Dates are set on request, based on the required minimum number of participants.

Objectives

This course deals with Ship to Ship transfers of cargoes at sea. Our main objective is to create a safe culture within the respective stake holders when performing such dangerous operations that can result in disastrous consequences to human lives and to the marine environment.

Our aim is to enhance both knowledge and skills of Masters, Mooring Masters and STS Superintendents with the general principles as recommended by the OCIMF and other regulatory bodies.

Course Structure

  • Guidelines from OCIMF;
  • MARPOL requirements;
  • Typical STS plan;
  • Communication;
  • Safety awareness;
  • Relationship between STS Superintendent and Master;
  • Mooring equipment and typical rigging methods of STS equipment;
  • Manoeuvring during mooring and unmooring;
  • Contingencies (aborting the approach, pollution);
  • Procedures when alongside;
  • Simulated ship handling in various conditions.

Prerequisites

  1. Certification to STCW 95 11/2;
  2. Specialised Training Programme for Oil Tankers;
  3. Experience in a senior position as Deck Officer;
  4. Ship handling experience;
  5. GMDSS certification;
  6. Bridge Resource Management.
