The Course is designed for shore-based personnel working in the Malta Port Authority, within the Ship Agency Services sector, or as Freight Forwarding Agents, Terminal Operators and other maritime related service providers.

Course Aim:
The objectives of this course are:
- To impart a basic level of knowledge and awareness to newly employed shore-based personnel in the shipping industry.
- To impart a sense of situational awareness so as to reduce accidents.
- To familiarize new personnel with ships and port regulations so as to avoid unnecessary mistakes and to increase efficiency.
- To familiarize new personnel with a ships’ working procedures and crew so as to have a better working relationship.
Entry Requirements
To be eligible to attend this course, students must fulfil the following requirements:
- Candidates must be minimum 18 years of age.
- Candidates must be fluent in English.
Course Structure
This course consists of 30 hours of tuition split over 11 days.
Tuition will be given by means of classroom lectures and demonstrations.
Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the candidates will have gained the necessary knowledge in the following topics:
- An introduction to the shipping industry, including vessel types, trades, and terminology.
- Health and Safety on-board and in terminals.
- Security and safe movement around ports and on-board ships.
- Legislation
- Environmental protection
- Maintaining an effective working relationship between and amongst seafarers and shore-based personnel.
