Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats (Other than fast rescue boats) – STCW A-VI/2

Course Aim:

The purpose of this course is to provide students with the knowledge and training so that they become competent to operate life-saving appliances and take charge of a survival craft/rescue boat during or after launch.
Students will become proficient with how to manage survivors & the survival craft after abandoning ship whilst being capable of using all locating devices such as pyrotechnics and signaling/communication apparatus.

This course is designed in accordance with IMO Model course 1.23

This course consists of 40 hours of tuition split over 5 days.

Entry Requirements

To be eligible to attend this course, students must fulfil the following requirements:

  • Hold a valid seafarers medical certificate
  •  Hold an STCW Basic Safety Training certificate
  • Be not less than 18 years of age
  • Have approved seagoing service of not less than 12 months or have attended an approved training course and have approved seagoing service of not less than six months
