Course Name:

Transport Malta Officer of the Watch (Yachts less than 3000GT) CoC STCW Reg II/1

Course Aim:

To transfer the required knowledge, competence, and skills to the course participants’, as stated in the STCW Convention. On successful completion of the course & oral examination, candidates will be able to work worldwide as a Deck Officer on yachts less than 3000GT.

Tuition on all modules will be completed 13 weeks.

You will have the option to complete the course via either:

  • Comprehensive Route [13 week course]
  • Bi-Modular Route [over 2 periods] *

*Both modules are to be completed within 2 calendar years of each other

Entry Requirements

  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Hold a valid seafarers medical fitness certificate (IMO/ILO)
  • Hold a valid TM Master of Yachts 200 GT certificate or equivalent endorsed by Transport Malta such as RYA/IYT 200GT Offshore/Coastal/150Nm Certificate

Minimum requirements to be eligible for a certificate of competency as OOW on Yachts less than 3000GT:

Have accumulated either:

  • 12 months of approved seagoing service on vessels not less than 15mtr in length or 80GT, as part of an approved training programme, whilst holding a Transport Malta Approved Training Record Book, including 6 months of watchkeeping duties

OR

  • Have at least 36 months of approved seagoing service on vessels not less than 15mtrs in length or 80GT (Not holding Training Record Book)
  • Have successfully completed the approved OOW-Y3000GT Training Programme, including passing the following examinations:
    • Stability & Yacht Construction
    • Meteorology
    • Passage Planning
    • Bridge Watchkeeping
    • Celestial Navigation
    • Maritime Law (Malta)
    • Oral
